He will falsely claim that the Corrib gas field will secure Ireland's energy needs into the future.

It won't.

Shell is under no obligation to supply gas from the Corrib field to the domestic market. In fact we will buy the gas back from Shell at full market price and Shell can export this gas through interconnectors to Britain.

At a conference back in 2006, the then assistant secretary at the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, Martin Brennan, told the international audience of potential investors in Ireland’s offshore gas that ''there are now three interconnectors between Ireland and Britain, so if you do hit a gush, there’s plenty of market out there''.

There is a growing demand that we reclaim our oil and gas from the oil corporations. Let Shell hear this demand loud and clear. Come along to the Dublin Shell to Sea protest outside the RDS at 6pm on Thursday 24th March, Main Gate on Merrion Road.

If your on Facebook you can RSVP and help promote the protest at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=196305260401053

With the already intense pressure on Shell this week over the consents signed by Pat Carey on his last day in office, see http://www.indymedia.ie/article/99323 this event has been postponed by the organisers. Shell to Sea are therefore calling off the protest. Thanks to everyone who helped build for it

(Indy editors - this cancellation announcement is identical to the one on the Facebook event controlled by Dublin Shell to Sea ( http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=196305260401053 ) in case there is any concern about it being a spoof
